Munster sits along Ridge Road, once a dry, sandy shoreline ridge of ancient Lake Michigan and a well-traveled Potawatomi trail. Dutch immigrant families arrived beginning in 1855 and, by 1900, had built a farming community along the ridge growing potatoes, cabbages, and onions for local and national markets. The town incorporated in 1907 and is still known today as "The Town Along the Ridge."
